Why a reluctant journey to Africa?
I get asked often, "How did you get involved in Africa?" For years, my answer was, "The Lord said to do this, and I said yes." This is not accurate.
The truth is that the Lord called me to get involved in something bigger than myself. Like the saints upon the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ to the temple in the Book of Mormon, it took me hearing it many times before I understood or accepted the message was from the Lord.
Once I accepted that the message was in deed from the Lord, I without hesitation responded with a YES, but I don't know what that means.
There wasn't anything in my life that would fit that call. Looking back I recognize that the Lord required a YES from me prior to enlightening me on what the call meant.

Within a couple of weeks, I was introduced to what the call meant. In a meeting with a friend who owned a fundraising company. At the conclusion of our meeting, he said, almost as a side note, "Oh, by the way, we have connected with a foundation that does water in Africa. I immediately knew that this was the "Something bigger" the Lord was talking about. Honestly, at that moment in time, I could not have told you where Africa was on the globe. I had no interest in going to Africa. It was never a thought for me.
I now tell people when they ask how I got involved; the Lord told me he had something for me to do. After I said YES, he told me he was going to send me to Africa. I told him I don't want to go to Africa. He said, well, I'm going to send you anyway. I have to date made around 40 trips to Africa.
I'm also asked,
"What is your favorite part of Africa?"
Spending time with the children in the villages and orphanages. What makes this amazing blessing better is when we get to provide them and their families with life-saving water.
